Balgonie was first settled in 1876 by Scottish settlers and was named by the Countess of Strathmore after the Balgonie Castle in Scotland. Located 25 km east of Regina, Balgonie is home to the largest rural high school in the province and the longest-running outdoor swimming pool which opened in the 1970s.
Balgonie is also home of the Megan Selzer rink, Canadian Junior Women's Curling Champions and the winner of the World Junior Championship Silver in 2006.
